A.S. Paul, or Ally as her friends know her, works at the intersection of historical craft and contemporary observation. Specializing in hand-coated alternative photographic processes, she embraces the imperfections and unpredictability of the medium to create one-of-a-kind prints that document the San Francisco Bay Area. Her work looks at the funny and uncanny ways the past intrudes on the present by finding a strange beauty in everything from gravestones to disco balls.
