Claire Dawes captures a haunting magic in the natural world. Her art features dark, inky lines in contrast with bright whites and stars to create oneiric depictions of spectral florals, curious critters, and spilled night skies. Through pen and ink she hopes to communicate fragments of a world that is mesmerizing and fantastical--a mirror to our own, reflected in flowing ink and copper filigree. She contrasts geometric patterns, frames, and borders with the wild, unconfined organic shapes of nature, highlighting their sharply dark and chaotic quality. Claire lives in Oakland and loves chocolate, books, wind, and cows.
