Sounds of Silence - Caged Thoughts

Sasha Igdari

Sounds of Silence: Caged Thoughts is an immersive art installation by Sasha H. Igdari, based in the Bay Area. Conceived as a ritual rather than an object, the work invites guests into an intimate confrontation with mortality, memory, and the thoughts we carry but rarely share.

A continuation of last year’s Edwardian Ball installation, Sounds of Silence: a library of sculpted faces paired with recorded streams of consciousness, this iteration abandons the voice in favor of the written word. Guests enter an iron birdcage and sit opposite a skeleton, an embodiment of the inevitable future self. Inside the cage, participants write anonymous letters addressed to Self, God, Love, Hate, and other abstractions, and place them into themed drawers.

These letters may be read by all guests, transforming private reflections into a public offering. At the conclusion of the evening, all letters are ceremonially burned, releasing their contents and dissolving the record. The installation embraces the quiet absurdity of death in the absence of moral resolution, offering structure, participation, and ritual rather than answers.
